Mit einer anregenden (Ein-)Stimmung in drei intensive internistische Kongresstage wird die erforderliche kreative Lernatmosphäre geschaffen. Die SGIM Opening Lecture bietet dazu die gesunde Mischung aus Genuss, Anregung und Wissensvermittlung und sorgt für einen schwungvollen Start in diese 78. Jahresversammlung.

In der Raths-Steiger-Vorlesung* «To be an Internist Down Under» beleuchtet der australische Professor Napier Thomson (Präsident der International Society of Internal Medicine, ISIM) eine neue Perspektive der Inneren Medizin: Der Blick richtet sich für einmal nicht in den Westen sondern gen Osten. Haben australische Internisten die gleichen medizinischen und politischen Probleme wie die schweizerischen? Wie sieht es mit Nachwuchs in den Spitälern und in der Grundversorgung aus? Hat man auf der anderen Seite unseres Planeten schon Lösungen gefunden für die immensen Kosten, die bei der Behandlung von polymorbiden Patienten entstehen? Bekannte Ansichten vermischen sich mit neuen Fakten und Erlebnissen, so zum Beispiel bei der Betrachtung medizinischer Aspekte im Zusammenhang mit Aborigines.

Für die passende australische Atmosphäre im Congress Center sorgt der Schweizer Didgeridoo-Spieler Matthias Müller. Und wer weiss, vielleicht löst seine Zirkularatmung schon erste medizinische Diskussionen aus …

A most inspiring event will allow you to tune in to three intensive congress days on internal medicine and give rise to the highly creative learning atmosphere required. To this aim, the SGIM/SSMI Opening Lecture shall offer a healthy mix of enjoyment, inspiration and knowledge transfer and thereby guarantee a dynamic start into this 78^th annual assembly.

During the Raths-Steiger-lecture* «To be an Internist Down Under» the Australian Professor Napier Thomson (President of the International Society of Internal Medicine ISIM) shall explore a new perspective on internal medicine. For once we will be looking to the East rather than the West, thereby considering the following questions: Do Australian internists have the same medical and political problems as their Swiss counterparts? What is the situation regarding young academics in hospitals and in primary health care? Has humankind on the other side of our planet already found solutions for the enormous costs generated by the treatment of polymorbid patients? Well-known opinions will be blended with new facts and experiences, for example when taking a closer look at medical aspects of Aboriginal health (care).

The Swiss didgeridoo player Matthias Müller will take care of creating the adequate Australian atmosphere in the Congress Centre. And who knows – maybe his circular breathing will already trigger first medical discussions …
